How to scan for Viruses with AVG Anti-Virus

Double click AVG to start the program

Make sure all of the components listed on the overview are green and active.

Click the computer scanning tab on the left menu.

Move your mouse over the computer labeled (scan whole computer) it should turn light blue

Click on the computer don’t hit (change scan settings)
            if you click the change scan settings link you can modify scanning settings.

You will notice the scanning start and the objects scanned numbers start to change.
At this point get some coffee or go watch TV it might take 2 or 3 hours to finish depending on how big the hard drive is.

After scanning you will see the results page. Press the button to remove all unhealed infections.

Scroll the list to the left and look at the results. Make sure all were healed or moved to vault. Click the close results button bottom right.

 How to check your virus vault to clean out infections from it

Click the history drop down menu, select virus vault. You should see all of your infections. Click the button to empty vault lower right. It will ask if you are sure you want to empty the vault click Yes. Everything listed should go away. Click close. Then click the top X and close the program.

 Don't worry if you find a lot of tracking cookies. This is normal and will happen most times you scan.

If you get a lot of popup boxes in the lower right of screen, here is how to shut them off.

Start the program, this time click the tools drop down menu

Select advanced settings

To shut off all balloon tips uncheck the Display system tray notifications.
Doing this will not stop the scanning and you will still be notified if a virus is found.

Uncheck the bottom 4 balloon tray notifications. Click APPLY

Don’t worry if one or two are grayed out. These don’t apply.

That should stop the extra message from coming up.

You should be protected and the protection will be full time.
